Hydrometallurgy of copper always adopt the process route of cooper ore leaching, solvent extraction of the leaching solution, organic reverse extraction ( stripping ), pregnant copper ion solution (copper ions density is 40~50g/L) goes into electrolytic tank for copper electrowinning . The cost of investing copper electrowinning plant in industrial scale is from 700,000 USD to 20 million USD. It is a big investment amount.
However , hydrometallurgy for copper is a complex system. It is related with the factors on the properties of ores, the leaching method (heap leaching, tank mixing leaching) , the solution used for leaching (sulfuric acid, ammonia water), the choice for selection of extractants and diluents and the influence of impurity ions (Fe and Mn)in the electrolyte on electrowinning process, etc.
In order to make the investment is safe and sucessful, we could do a simulation experiment by a pilot plant for copper ore leaching, solvent extraction, stripping and electrowinning. by which we will learn all the above factors. It will provide a basis for the investment on our industrial-scale copper electrowinning plant.
