Gold extraction methods include shaking table method, spiral chute, flotation, heap leaching, CIP or CIL ,Bio-oxidation , etc.

Different types of gold ores shall adopt different kind of gold extraction method.

Gold Extraction Methods from different types of gold ores

1.  Gold ores from gold-bearing quartz veins

Mineral composition of this gold ore is relatively simple. Gold is the only mineral for collection. The natural gold particle size is coarse. It is easy for collection by simple ore beneficiation process.

2. Gold ores contains a little sulfide

Gold is the only mineral for collection. There is a little sulfide, which exists as pyrite. The natrual gold particle size is coarse. It is easy for collection by simple ore beneficiation process.

3. Gold ores contains a lot sulfide

There are high content of pyrite and arsenopyrite, which could be colllected as secondary product. The grade of gold is low. The natural gold particle size is fine and mostly encased in pyrite.  It usually adopts the froth flotation method for collecting the sulfide and gold. Then separating gold from sulfide.

4.  Polymetallic ore bearing gold 

In addition to gold, there is copper, lead, zinc, tungsten, antimony, etc in this kind of ore. This kind of gold ore includes a significant amount of sulfide (10%–20%).  In addition to pyrite, natural gold is closely associated with copper, lead and other minerals. The particle size of natural gold is coarser, but the grain size varies widely and distributes unevenly, and varies with the mining depth.

This kind of ore is generally treated by flotation method to concentrate the gold in the non-ferrous mineral concentrate, and then recover the gold in the smelting process. Gold can be obtained by cyanidation from gold bearing ore concentrate produced by flotation of sulfide minerals  in the mining site.

5. Complex refractory gold ore

Except the gold,  there are a large quantity of antimony, arsenic, tellurium, argillaceous and carbonaceous material etc. These impurities make the traditional beneficiation process very difficult and complicate the process flow. When dressing this kind of ore, the non-ferrous metal mineral concentrate containing gold is generally obtained by flotation method first, and then the harmful impurities such as arsenic, antimony, tellurium and carbon are removed from the gold concentrate by low temperature oxidation roasting or hot pressing oxidation leaching method, and then the gold is extracted from the calciner or leaching residue by cyanation method.

6. Gold-Copper ore  

This type of ore differs from polymetallic gold-bearing ores in that the grade of gold is lower. The natural gold grain size is medium, but the grain size changes greatly, and the symbiosis between gold and other minerals is complex. when copper flotation, most of the gold goes into the copper concentrate, which is then recovered during smelting copper.

The gold beneficiation process mainly depends on the chemical composition, mineral composition, gold grain size of gold of the gold ore,  and the requirements of the finished products. No matter what kind of technology and process is adopted, when the raw material contains coarse  dissociate gold, it is generally recovered in time by means of mercury mixing, gravity separation or single tank flotation before flotation and cyanidation. As far as conditions permit, the production of alloy or pure gold shall be carried out in mines. This will not only reduce the transport of intermediate products, but also speed up product sales, which is good for capital flow.
